Creating a Learning
culture, Training, Developing, providing self-confidence,
mental & physical fitness to the team at Hirdaramani (Industries)
Limited, Kahathuduwa is very visible by the many training
programs to which they have been exposed. |

Going further
on the above, the staff was exposed to another outward-bound
training program at Thotupola conducted by the Echo Adventure
Based Training Team.
This was a 2 days training program where the participants were
made to create a sense of responsibility, gratefulness, ownership,
and physical fitness.
Narrating more on the above, an egg was given to every participant
to preserve it and return at the end of the training program.
This was a hard task but the responsibility of the team was
proved when all participants returned their eggs back to the
trainers.
The participants themselves erected tents and 3 people shared
a tent for which they took the ownership. |

The main theme was the
team spirit building activities. The Hirdaramani Team Spirit
as it always is developed it further by these activities and
it was encouraging to note that the team support given by the
members ensure that all participants went through the unimaginable
activities immaterial of age.
Decision-making techniques were incorporated in all these activities
since this is a major part in going forward in our business.
Some of the techniques used in the very tough activities that
the team was exposed will definitely help the team to get going
when the going gets tough.
All in all, the total training was a marvelous experience which
helped the team to stand more firm on the “Can do Attitude”
which has been within the company right throughout. |
| Experience of Mrs. D.W. Ramanayake |
 |
Although I was looking
forward eagerly to attend this adventure based training program,
when the agenda of the program was read and when I saw the 50
meters high building from where we had to abseil and the aerial
rope, I was a bit nervous to do these activities.
But believe me, it was a marvelous feeling, when I completed
this task. I myself could not believe I did it. At first when
I went up the building, I said NO to myself, but my team encouraged
me, which made this possible. |
| Experience of Mrs. Janet Sethupathy |
 |
When I jumped off the 50 meters
high building on the aerial rope, I thought that was the end,
but when I landed, I could not believe I’ve done it. Also
the abseiling if I was only an admirer I would have thought
I could never do it. But, I did it because of the encouragement
my team gave me.
These were a few events that were most daring things I have
ever done. All these drastic decision of jumping off a building
so high was taken only because of the team spirit that we have
at HI
I admit these events are very scary but it was a whole lot of
experience and self- confidence that I gained on completing
these tasks. |

“What an experience” – I was
after a major operation that I had to undergone while working
at our Bangladesh factory. I was brought back to Sri Lanka on
a stretcher. I still do have after effects of the accident although
I participated in the outward bound training program. I participated
with the intention of avoiding any activities that I may not
be able to perform, but believe me I did all the activities
like abseiling from a very high building, rowing and I even
went on the aerial rope from 50 meters high. This proved that
nothing is impossible if you have the courage, desire and undoubtedly
the support given by the team. |
