Please be informed
that on 07th February 2005, the Hirdaramani Group has entered
into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry
of Education to re-construct and re-habilitate, Vidyaloka
Maha Vidyalaya, Galle, which was damaged by the Tsunami disaster. |

The signatories
were, Mr. Anil Hirdaramani, Director Hirdaramani Group and Dr.
(Mrs.) Tara De Mel, Secretary, Ministry of Education, “Isurupaya”,
Battaramulla.
According to Mr. A. Kuruppu, (who had discussions with the Education
Ministry officials in connection with the project) the above
MOU covers the following scope of work: |

New constructions |
| A three storey building
to replace 3 damaged buildings, new toilet blocks, a canteen,
a pavilion, parapet wall with 2 gates and |

| B.
Repairs to existing buildings |
| GCE (O/L & A/L)
Science Laboratories, Home Science Unit, Computer Training Centers,
Administration Block with Principal’s office, Assembly
Hall, Aesthetic Unit for Music, Dancing & Art, Vocational
& Technical Unit, Play area for School Children, Cadetting
& Scouting Rooms, restoration of electricity & water
services & painting of buildings. |

Equipment |
| 42 Computers, 600 chairs
for the Assembly Hall, canteen utensils and furniture. |

| Brief
Description of the school: |
Established : 63 years
ago, a National “A” grade School.
Strength : Students (Boys) – 2250, Teaching Staff –
83, Minor Staff – 23.
Education : From Primary up to Advance Level (Science, Arts
& Commerce)
Sports : Cricket, Soccer, Hockey, Rugby etc.,
This is just one of the many relief & re-construction projects
undertaken by the Hirdaramani Group, as a result of the destruction
caused by the Tsunami tidal waves. |
