Re-Construction and Rehablitation of Tsunami Affected Vidyaloka College Galle
Vidyaloka College in Galle is a national school, which has more than 2200 students having classes from Year One to Advanced Level. Unfortunately it was one of the many schools, badly affected by the Tsunami in December 2004.

In an effort to assist the school, Hirdaramani Group of Companies has signed an MOU with the Ministry of Education to reconstruct, repair and rehabilitate Vidyaloka College . The financial assistance for the proposed reconstruction has been provided by Harrow, one of the most prestigious schools in England . They have also suggested a “long term partnership” with Vidyaloka College.

According to the above MOU a new three storey class room block, canteen, gymnasium, pavilion and toilet blocks will be constructed in addition to repairs in all other buildings. The school will also be provided with new computers, furniture, Science Laboratory equipment, musical and band equipment etc. The total project cost will be approximately 47 million Sri Lankan Rupees.

We are pleased to inform you that on the 6th of April 2005, the Head Master of Harrow, Mr. B. J. Lenon will be visiting the Vidyaloka College in Galle . He will be laying the Foundation Stone for the Gymnasium and checking on the progress of the construction work carried out so far. He is also scheduled to meet Dr. Tara De Mel, Secretary, Ministry of Education in connection with the above project.
