The award winning factory ‘Mihila’, a part of the Hirdaramani Group was opened on the 02nd of October. The event was ceremoniously inaugurated by Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Honorable Rathnasiri Wickremanayake in their eco-friendly Agalawatte factory. The event was also graced by the Minister for Disaster Management and Human Rights Mr. Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister of Investment Promotion Mr. Navin Dissanayake, and Minister of Industrial Development Mr. Kumar Welgama. The Chairman/ Director General of the Board of Investment Mr.Dhammika Perera and other BOI and government officials were among the special invitees who were present to witness the occasion.




‘Mihila’ is the only fully fledged state-of-the-art green factory that was awarded the most prestigious LEED GOLD Certification from the US Green Building Council; a first from the world in the newly constructed category for a factory in the apparel industry.
Housing a production area of approximately 96,000 sq.ft and having a capacity of up to 70,000 standard hours, this custom built factory specializes in knitwear and provides employment to over a thousand people.

Nestled in the midst of paddy fields and misty hills, 12% of Mihila’s land has been converted into a wet land encompassed with a picturesque butterfly garden. Enriched with a variety of endemic flora and fauna, Mihila has dedicated over 30% of their land mass for a mini rain forest. This unique feature has been achievable with the assistance of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
The usage of water evaporating cooling systems instead of an air conditioning system is another one of its kind. Having succeeded in their mission of going green, the Hirdaramani Group is now in the process of achieving the OSHAS 18001 certification.
